One-cup Coffeemakers

Quickness and convenience in coffee brewing

Many people do not want to make a whole pot of coffee. They are just looking to make one to two cups. Unless a large coffeemaker has a small brew cycle, one has to make a full pot just to have one cup. So, for those who crave convenience and only one cup of coffee, a one-cup coffeemaker is the perfect solution.

One-cup coffeemakers range in price from $20 to $250. The main benefit of these machines is convenience. They are fairly easy to use. All that is involved in with these machines is for someone to put in the coffee (usually a pod), add water, and press a button. The coffee from these machines is usually good-tasting and consistent. The main drawback is that most of these machines require coffee pods. Coffee pods make the machine easy to use, but they are somewhat lacking in variety. In some cases, the coffee pods are hard to find.

Some of the more popular one-cup coffeemakers are:

Black & Decker Brew N Go,
the Home Café, and
the Senseo Coffeemaker.

These three makers make are indicative of one-cup coffeemakers as a whole. On the low end, the Black N Decker Brew N Go is a convenient choice. Costing only $20, the Brew N Go delivers enough coffee for two cups of coffee in two thermal mugs (included with the maker). The Brew N Go is a good choice for those who just want a quick mug of coffee to go. The real advantage to this machine is that it does not require coffee pods. The disadvantage is that the quality of the coffee brewed is scanty.

The Home Café at $60 is another option. Although heavily marketed, the reviews run from great to so-so. The Home Café also requires coffee pods.

The Senseo, at $70, is a slightly more expensive one-cup coffeemaker, but it’s convenient. The Senseo is easy to operate and produces a good cup of coffee quickly and efficiently. Like most other one-cup coffeemakers, the Senseo only uses coffee pods. Some have noted that Senseo’s pods are a little hard to find, but the upside is that the Senseo can accommodate other similar-sized coffee pods.
